Spider veins are tiny, thin veins that vary in color and that you can see just under the surface of your skin. They’re so named because they remind us of spider webs, and are also sometimes described as looking like marble.

Spider veins in the leg, hand, and face are caused by unhealthy valves inside feeder veins, allowing blood to flow backwards instead of upwards toward the heart. Some of this backed-up blood can lead to non-functional, “dead end” veins that appear underneath the surface of the skin as spider veins.

Many of us will eventually encounter vein health issues. It’s usually hereditary, so if your parents or grandparents have or had spider veins, you are more likely to develop them as well. If you become pregnant or have a job or lifestyle that requires standing for long periods of time, this may make them worse, or increase the probability of getting them.

What is the Excel V+ Laser?

With the most advanced technology, a unique design, and a longer wavelength, the Excel V+ Laser safely and effectively treats a broad range of vessels from tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins quickly, safely, and effectively. Patients with dark, light or tanned skin can experience outstanding results.

How does the Excel V+ Laser work?

The laser delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be.

How does Excel V+ Laser differ from Sclerotherapy for leg veins?

Depending on the type, size and color of the spider and reticular veins being treated, Dr. David Swierzewski can determine if sclerotherapy or laser therapy will be most effective.

What does a Excel V+ Laser treatment feel like?

Patients describe the treatment as feeling like a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered. To minimize discomfort, the Excel V+ uses a proprietary cooling mechanism. Following the treatment, pain is minimal to non-existent.

How long does a Excel V+ Laser treatment take?

The treatment takes 10-15 minutes.

What do I need to know before my first Excel V treatment?

We recommend wearing compression stockings for 48 hours after spider vein treatment and/or refraining from activities that pump blood to the lower legs, such as hiking, biking, or treadmill.
